What to Do During the Solar Eclipse
18th March 2015
Shaykh-ul-Ḥadīth Ḥaḍrat Mawlāna Ādam Ṣāḥib رَحِمَهُ الله
Use this rare moment to engage in the worship and remembrance of Allāh ﷻ—do not let it go to waste.
Recite the Qur’ān Kareem.
Men: Perform Ṣalāh in the Masjid.
Women: Perform Ṣalāh at home—preferably 4 Rak‘āt Nafl in sets of two, though 2 Rak‘āt is also permissible.
Allāmah Ibn Muneer رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّهُ stated that the darkness of the eclipse resembles the darkness of the grave. Every stage of the Ākhirah has its reflection in this world. Just as there will be a great earthquake on the Day of Judgment, so too does Allāh ﷻ show us earthquakes in this life.
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ زَلْزَلَةَ ٱلسَّاعَةِ شَىْءٌ عَظِيمٌ
"O mankind! Fear your Lord and be dutiful to Him! Verily, the earthquake of the Hour (of Judgement) is a terrible thing." [22:1]
The eclipse serves as a reminder of the temporary nature of this world and the everlasting reality of the Ākhirah.
Remember, you may never witness another eclipse in your lifetime. There was only one solar eclipse recorded during the lifetime of Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, as confirmed by Aḥādīth and astronomical records.
Reflect on the power of Allāh ﷻ during this moment. A solar eclipse is the only time when the sun appears disconnected from the earth. Imagine if Allāh ﷻ decreed for the sun to fall—life on earth would cease to exist!
