Summary of Jumuah Bayan by Shaykhul-Ḥadīth Ḥaḍrat Mawlāna Ādam ibn Yūsuf Ṣāḥib

26th January 2024

14th Rajab 1445

In the Quran Hakeem, Allah ‎ﷻ has mentioned the stories and incidences which occurred in the life of Rasullullah ‎ﷺ and all His Messengers. He has also mentioned situations which the previous  Prophets faced, which then act as lessons for the ummah of Rasulullah ‎ﷺ .

The Quran Kareem is a guide for us; it is a straight path, a path to Jannah. If we follow the Quran correctly, we will reach Jannah, inshaAllah.

Allah ‎ﷻ has mentioned in the Quran

Surely, this Qur’ān guides to something that is most straightforward, and gives glad tidings to the believers who do good deeds that ready for them there is a great reward

[17:9]

The Quran also mentions regarding the treatment of our parents. For example: it is mentioned regarding Sayyiduna Ibrahim AS:

وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ صِدِّيقًا نَّبِيًّا

And mention in the Book (the story of) Ibrāhīm. Indeed, he was Siddīq (a man of truth), a prophet

[19:41]

Then Allah ‎ﷻ mentions the advice Ibrahim AS mentioned to his father. His father was on the incorrect path, a path learn to Jahannam. How he spoke to his father with respect.

My dear father, do not worship the Satan. The Satan is surely rebellious to the All-Merciful, (Allah). [19:44]

His father replied saying:

قَالَ أَرَاغِبٌ أَنتَ عَنْ ءَالِهَتِى يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ ۖ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ لَأَرْجُمَنَّكَ ۖ وَٱهْجُرْنِى مَلِيًّۭا

He said, “Are you averse to my gods O Ibrāhīm? Should you not stop, I will definitely stone you. And leave me for good

[19:46]

We learn from this that if our parents or elders are going astray, we should make them understand with love and understanding. (Pyar and muhabbat). Sayyiduna Ibrahim AS calls him ‘dear father’ and speaks kindly to his father , despite his fathers stern response and threats.

The lessons from Yusuf AS’s story

His brothers conspired against him and threw him in the well. They returned to their father.

And they came with fake blood on his shirt. He said, “Rather, your inner desires have tempted you to do something. So, the best patience. It is Allah whose help is sought against what you describe.’’

[12:18]

Then some travelers found him in the well and sold him in Egypt as a slave. Then a lady named Zulaykha cast a false allegation against him and the ruler of the time jailed him.

So, he (Yūsuf) remained in prison for a number of years.

[12:42]

Eventually he was freed and he was proven innocent.

A time came when Egypt was taken by a drought. So, Yusuf AS was put in charge of the food supplies of Egypt.

Despite going through all this hardship, he still did not say he was pure of any blame and wrongdoing.

And I do not absolve my inner self of blame. Surely, man’s inner self often incites to evil, unless my Lord shows mercy. Certainly, my Lord is the Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.”

[12:53]

This is teaching us that beware of yourself, you also have a nafs and shaytan. If you get caught up within them, then at the end your conclusion will be Jahannam. If we lose sight of this, then within moments we could start disobeying Allah ‎ﷻ and following our desires. For example, if we come across someone from the opposite gender, we can't resist but to have a glance at them.

My dear respected friends and elders بد نظرى (unlawful glances) had such a grave punishment there is looming possibility of it leading to an evil ending at the time of death. We could be praying  much and worshipping a lot, it is our soul inciting to evil if we don’t take control of our glances.

The pious have said that those who don’t stay away from this deed, they don’t repent and bring the fear of Allah ‎ﷻ in their hearts, their deeds will be of no avail to them and  there is a great fear of them having a rotten ending to their life. May Allah ‎ﷻ save us all.

Allah ‎ﷻ has created us with ears eyes and tongue. Attaining Jannah and emancipation from Jahannam is through these very same organ. If we haven’t disciplined the gaze of our eyes, the listening of our ears and the speech which we utter through our tongue, we will be unsuccessful.

Continuing to backbite about others, he/she is like this and that, one should think, if that person is like this then what about myself, I am like this, I am like that.

I recommend and reiterate to the mothers and sisters too to remove the habit of backbiting and to repent if they have this issue within them. Repent immediately. Before the conversation would be about elderly folk passing away. We see and hear of many young passing away, too! People are passing away so suddenly that they haven't even had a chance to repent before dying, not even (saying a phrase as concise as) Astagfirullah.

So, when their appointed time will come, they cannot be late for a moment, nor will they get ahead.

[7:34]

Continuing from the story of Yusuf AS, a time came when the brothers of Yusuf AS had little wealth, they came to collect grains and food provisions from him (when Yusuf AS was in) Egypt. They asked for some extra grain.

Yusuf AS thought despite that they are the ones who threw him in the well, they are asking for extra grain.

And Yusuf AS said

He said, “Do you know what you did to Yūsuf and his brother when you were ignorant?”

They said, “Is it that you are, in fact, Yūsuf?” He said, “I am Yūsuf, and this is my brother. Allah has been very kind to us. Surely, whoever fears Allah and observes patience, Allah does not let the reward of such good people to go to waste.”

[12:89-90]

The jewel of human life is Taqwa (Being conscious of Allah Ta'ala at all times). And this cannot be achieved until the nafs (desires) are under control.

For example

If you are receiving ten thousand pounds but you know very clearly that it is unlawful money, you could easily take it and you are also even in need of it. However, you perservere and refuse to take it. This is Taqwa.

To deal with others in an evil manner, holding back the wealth of others, But we just remember  and recall the fast we kept on Mondays and Thursdays, the fast in Sha’baan we may have kept. We remember the waza’if (prayers) we may have prayed. But my dear respected friends and elders, these (above mentioned virtuous deeds) are all just to build our spiritual self, but we haven’t corrected our nafs, so what use will it be.

One comes to the Masjid and carries out a good deed. But as soon as they leave the Masjid they are in thought of how they may earn money, without paying much thought to whether it shall be in a lawful manner or unlawful manner.

Those who earn money unlawfully, they can’t even digest that money. They’re eating food and they can’t keep it down for example.

In Deoband there was a pious man named Abdullah Shah. His method of earning a livlihood was that he would go to the jungle and cut fresh wild grass that would not belong to anyone. He would make bundles of this grass and sell it after Fajr salah. He would earn 7 coins for 1 bundle which wasn’t much. After Fajr there was always such a queue around him. People would question as to why people would queue to purchase grass, whereas there is grass available just nearby. The customers would say the times they bought this grass, their animals would provide three times the amount of milk than usual after eating this grass. This merchant, who had a family to feed, slowly saved up little by little. He then went to Hadhrat Gangohi رَحِمَهُ الله and presented the money asking Hadhrat if he could arrange that himself and some other pious individuals are fed with this money.  Hadhrat obliged. He bought a pot, rice and ghor (jaggery- unrefined sugar). Hazrat sent an invitation to the pious of time and he told the cook to perform wudhu and then cook. The pious people who ate said after eating their food they were able to pray all night and we felt so much love for Allah ‎ﷻ and His messenger ‎ﷺ. They said this feeling lasted a few days.

This is the effect of true Halal food and halal earning. It creates eagerness to worship Allah ‎ﷻ.

Some people do not feel like worshipping Allah ‎ﷻ, it could be the result of unlawful earning.

My dear respected friends and elders, this is a long topic. In the future if Allah ‎ﷻ gives me an opportunity or He doesn’t, remember that in this world by worshipping Allah ‎ﷻ, believing in Him ‎ﷻ and obeying Allah ‎ﷻ and His Rasul ‎ﷺ we will be successful. Otherwise we will not be successful.

We are happy with such little of what we do. If we perform tahajjud for four nights, on the fifth night we look under our pillow to see if anyone has come and placed money there!

May Allah ‎ﷻ grant us a good ending

May Allah ‎ﷻ connect us to Him and enable us to keep hold of the garment of Rasullullah ‎ﷺ
