Hadhat in Sharjah about the pious predecessors
Hadhrat Maulana Adam Sahib DB in Sharjah UAE Short English Summary 28th July 2015
Hadhrat started by quoting the ayah:
الرَّحْمَٰنُ فَاسْأَلْ بِهِ خَبِيرًا
“Ask, about Him [Allah SWT], one who is well informed” [Surah Furqan:59]
خَبِيرًا is seegah mubalaga [intensive adjective] which means someone who knows well and is truly aware. This first means the prophets, then the sahaba and then the pious people. In every time there will be people who are خَبِيرًا [i.e. well informed]. If the well-informed were not going to be in every nation and time, then Allah wouldn’t give this order to ask the people who are aware as “لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا [Surah Baqarah: 286] Allah does not burden anyone beyond his ability.” Their number is different in every time, but there is always some. So Allah sent Hadhrat Musa AS to meet Hadhrat Khidr AS because he was knowledgeable. Each and every place or time has some knowledgeable people. Some people recognise them, whereas some don’t. There are many in Hindustan and in the Haramain there are always many knowledgeable people.
Everybody has a need of sit in the company of the pious. Hadhrat Thanwi RA’s knowledge is famous; he wrote over a thousand books. Hadhrat Gangohi RA’s knowledge is also famous. Hadhrat Gangohi RA once went to the city where Haji Imdadullah RA stayed, so he decided to meet him. Haji Imdadullah RA respected him immensely and invited him to stay the night in his khanqah. The disciples of Haji Imdadullah RA awoke in the middle of the night and started doing dhikr slowly in such a way that a person could fall asleep. Hadhrat Gangohi RA performed salah and went to sleep. Hadhrat Gangohi RA asked Haji Imdadullah if he could stay for longer. Haji Imdadullah agreed. Hadhrat Gangohi RA stayed for three days, and he was given khilafah after only these three days, he was instructed to write about his situation to Haji Imdadullah. After a while Haji Imdadullah wrote to Hadhrat Gangohi RA because he had not received any letters regarding his situatuion. Hadhrat Gangohi RA replied saying, “what can I write regarding my situation if I don’t have a situation, I feel as though I am nothing therefore have nothing to write.” Despite being such a famous, great personality, he was so humble and thought nothing of himself.
Hadhrat Gangohi RA’s clothes would always be grand. In the latter part of his life he lost his eyesight. Many people told him to have an operation to regain his eyesight, but he would quote the hadith wherein it is mentioned that if a person is patient when he loses his eyesight, he will go to jannah. People would come from all around the world to meet him. Once someone mentioned to him that you have so many people around you to look after you, he replied saying, that I thank Allah that after He has taken my eyesight away, he has given me many great blessings.
Mufti Uthmani of Darul Uloom Deoband was teaching Jalalayn Sharif so he was doing mutala at night in order to teach in the morning. He came across the ayah وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ [53:39] and he had a question in his mind regarding Isaal thawab [sending rewards for the dead], which has been mentioned in many hadith. He walked from Deoband to Gangoh, during the night in order to meet Hadhrat Gangohi RA. When he reached Gangoh, it was fajr time. The khadim was helping Hadhrat Gnagohi RA to perform wudhu [because he had lost his eyesight]. Hadhrat Gangohi RA asked him why he has come from Deoband in the middle of the night. He explained the question he had in his mind. Hadhrat Gangohi RA replied whilst still performing wudhu, that the ayah is regarding imaan and the hadith wherein isaal thawab has been mentioned is regarding actions. i.e the deceased will receive the reward if he had imaan, if he didn’t have imaan, no matter how much reward is sent, the deceased will not receive it. This was the extent of knowledge of Hadhrat Gangohi RA that he replied instantly. The mufti walked the distance between Deoband and Gangoh during the night to ask this once question. This is the sacrifice the ulama went through to gain knowledge and understand everything in detail. This is the mufti from whose grave the sound of tilawah would be heard. People would come and take the soil from his grave for barakah and his brother would go daily to put some more soil on his grave. Once the bother went to the grave and said, “You’re reciting Quran, but here I am in difficulty because I have to constantly put soil on your grave!”
