Anger

*Summary of Iṣlāḥī Majlis by Shaykhul-Ḥadīth Ḥaḍrat Mawlāna Ādam ibn Yūsuf Ṣāḥib دامت بركاته*

15th Nov 2020 | 29th Rabīul Awwal 1442AH

_A man said to the Prophet ﷺ, “Advise me.” He ﷺ said, “Do not become angry.” The man repeated [his request for advise] several times, and [each time] he ﷺ said, “Do not become angry.”_ (Bukhārī)

The noble companions, may Allah ﷻ be pleased with them, on different occasions would come to Rasūlullah ﷺ seeking advice. The Messenger ﷺ gave advice based on what he knew to be most suited to the needs of the individual. In this Ḥadīth, the companion was advised to refrain from anger.

*Dangers of Anger*

Anger leads to the destruction of one’s life, as well as the Hereafter. Anger is like a dagger of the devil with which he stabs the believers. The one caught up with anger loses his rational thinking. Sometimes it makes one say words of disbelief which take them out of the fold of Islām. Anger is also another reason why the divorce rates are on a rise today. For this reason, Rasūlullah ﷺ advised his companion not to reach to his anger, and the same advice applies to us all.

*Cure for Anger*

One tried and tested cure for anger is to post reminders around the house saying “do not get angry!”

From another Ḥadīth, we also learn that if one is angry when they’re standing, they should sit down. If sitting, lie down. If need be, walk away from the situation and do not react during the heat of the moment.

Reflect: “I am reacting to this person's mistakes in this way. How will Allah ﷻ deal with my mistakes?”

Taqwa never comes into the heart until we purify our heart from the filth of sins, which includes anger.

However, not all forms of anger are disliked. If anger is for personal reasons, then it is disliked. But if it is for the sake of Dīn, it is sometimes recommended. But this anger needs to be expressed in productive and not harmful ways.

Note: The feeling of anger in itself isn't sinful, as anger comes naturally and involuntarily. The sin occurs when we unjustly act upon it causing harm to others. Thus Allah ﷻ praises those who swallow their anger:

*وَٱلۡكَـٰظِمِینَ ٱلۡغَیۡظَ وَٱلۡعَافِینَ عَنِ ٱلنَّاسِۗ والله يُحبُّ الْمُحْسِنِيْنَ*

_"Those who restrain their anger, and forgive others. And Allah ﷻ loves those who do good."_ (Āl-Imrān: part of Āyah 134)

*Concluding Advice*

Another advice that Ḥaḍrat gave was not to waste time. Spend your time wisely doing things that will illuminate your grave and help you in the Hereafter. Before sleeping, recite Durūd sharīf, Surah Mulk, and the last 2 Ayāt of Sūrah Baqarah. This will grant us safety and the pleasure of Allah ﷻ.

*'جو وقت ملا اسکی قدر کرو'*

_“Appreciate whatever time you are gifted with.”_ Within minutes, a healthy person can fall ill and pass away. So do not procrastinate in your tasks. Do what you need to do now.

```May Allah ﷻ grant us the ability to practise on everything that has been said. Āmīn```
