Summary of Iṣlāḥī Majlis by Shaykhul-Ḥadīth Ḥaḍrat Mawlāna Ādam ibn Yūsuf Ṣāḥib دامتبركاته

مولاي صل وسلم دائمًا أبدًا
على حبيبك خير الخلق كلهم
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " إِذَا نَظَرَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى مَنْ فُضِّلَ عَلَيْهِ فِيالْمَالِ وَالْخَلْقِ، فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ أَسْفَلَ مِنْهُ ".
_Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, "If anyone of you looked at a person who was made superior to him in wealth and appearance, then he should rather look at the one who is inferior to him._ (Bukhari & Muslim)
By practising on this one statement of Nabi ﷺ, we can get rid of so many problems in our lives. Sometimes, we look at what others have and we start to feel that what we have is not enough. We look at others people’s cars and houses etc. and develop jealousy within ourselves. We look at people who are better looking or have more wealth than us. This makes us feel low within ourselves. In this situation, Nabi ﷺ offers us a solution to this distress; we should always look at those below us when it comes to Dunya. For example, if you don't like your car, look at those who have no car at all. If you like someone else's shoes and feel you dont have a good pair of shoes, look at those who don’t even have feet, then say alhamdulillah.
Roughly 15 years ago, a man came to Hadhrat saying that his wife kept complaining about the state of their house, and insisted on buying a better house with an (interest-based) mortgage. She would keep saying, "look at your brother who has a much better house!" From this we also learn that by not being content with what we have, it leads us to other sins like greed and jealousy.
Story- "The Love of Allah"
Shaykh Saadi writes in his ‘Gulistaan’: there was once a king with many beautiful wives. One wife, however, was unattractive but most loved by the king. This made the other wives jealous which the king realised. One day, the king announced to all his wives, "Go to the backyard and whatever gifts you can grab are yours!" All the wives ran to grab their share. This one particular wife stood back by the king. The king asked her she did not go. She said, "I will grab you. If you are mine, everything is mine".
Similarly, Allah is One. If we become His, then everything becomes ours. With Allah in our heart, every difficulty becomes easy. Allah places sweetness in every difficulty when we love Him.
Advise from Hadhrat:
During the night, try to recite Surah Mulk and Waqiah. Surah Mulk will be a means of protection for us from the punishments of the grave. And Surah Waqiah will benefit us in Dunya and Akhirah.
A very short majlis but by practising on these words we can make our Hereafter fruitful.
