Definition of barakah and examples

Summary of the majlis

11 June 2020

Hadhrat Maulana Adam sahib Hafizahullah

“I came to Rasullullah ‎ﷺ with some dates and said: ‘O Rasulullah, make du’a that Allah places barakah in these dates.’ So he took them, made du’a for barakah and then said to me: ‘Take them and put them in your bag (or this bag) and whenever you intend to take from it, then put your hand in and take, and do not scatter them about.’

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah ra says, ‘I would take such and such ‘wasq’ (a unit of measure meaning a certain amount) of those dates in the path of Allah. We would to eat from it, and give others to eat. That bag would not part from my waist until the day ‘Uthman ra was martyred, for they had run out.”

This is also from the miracles of Rasullullah ‎ﷺ.

A lesson to learn is that when people have baseless arguments then the barakah from their sustenance ceases. If a household start to have baseless arguments between them then the barakah from their sustenance will cease. Especially between a husband and wife. This means there will be money but it will be used up easily. People should live lovingly together and not argue.

If a husband and wife try to stop their arguments, then Allah ‎ﷻ will give so much barakah that during their whole lifetime they will only need a little and it will go a long way.

Barakah means that there is increase in the provisions in an unknown way. This was from the miracles of Rasullullah ‎ﷺ. And his ummah are given barakah from his miracles.

In darul uloom Deoband, there was once a jalsa that was attended by many people. For this jalsa the number of attendees were more than usual and food was made too. Haji Imdadullah ra was told that the number of attendees was large, and that the food may not be enough. So Haji Imdadullah ra said ‘take this cloth of mine and cover the food pot. Keep taking food out but don’t uncover the whole pot. ‘

They were able to feed all the attendees with this food because of the barakah.

The karaamah (miracles) of a wali of Allah ‎ﷻ is from the miracles of Rasullullah ‎ﷺbecause it is due to following the way of Rasullullah ‎ﷺ that they are given these miracles.

Hadhrat mentions that he himself has seen the effects of a miracle of Rasullullah ‎ﷺ by eating dates from the date trees of the garden of hadhrat Salman alfarsi ra and also seeing the trees.

Approximately 50-60 years ago, Hadhrat visited haramain sharif for the first time. There is a famous garden where date trees were planted to free hadhrat Salman al farsi ra from the slavery of his master. These trees were still in the garden. In that time one date costed one riyal. Hadhrat Salman ra had been told he would be freed once he planted date trees and after they ripened (which would usually take a few years). So he went to Rasullullah ‎ﷺ and told him what his master had said. Rasullullah ‎ﷺ planted palm trees for Salman al-Farsi’s freedom and with the divine power they quickly ripened and he was set free. The trees were protected by the government of haramain sharif.

On Thursday evening we should pray durood in abundance. If we can we should pray khatme khwajgan.

We should pray 40 durood daily. If we can’t do this then recite it at least every Monday and Thursday night.

Whoever recites more durood, Allah ‎ﷻ will give him more in accordance of this.

After maghrib we should pray surah waaqiah, surah alif laam meem sajda and surah tabarak at least. If we recite it daily it won’t take that long.

May Allah ‎ﷻ give us tawfiq.

We have to prepare for death. We have all seen what is happening at the moment. Allah mentions in the Quran:

فَإِذَا رَكِبُوا فِي الْفُلْكِ دَعَوُا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّاهُمْ إِلَى الْبَرِّ إِذَا هُمْ يُشْرِكُونَ

And when they board a ship, they supplicate Allah, sincere to Him in religion. But when He delivers them to the land, at once they associate others with Him [29:65]

When they are in difficulty they pray to Allah ‎ﷻ, they stop sinning and pray.

But when Allah ‎ﷻ creates ease they are back to their sins.

May Allah ‎ﷻ save us from this.

We should pray the following daily

O Allah, divert my restlessness in the grave into peace.

O Allah! let me receive Your mercy by means of the Noble Qur’an and make it my guide as well as a source of light, guidance and grace for me.

O Allah! revive my memory of whatever I was made to forget from the Noble Qur’an, grant me understanding of whatever part I know not, enable me to recite it during hours of day and night and make it my main argumentative support (in all matters),

May Allah ‎ﷻ give us tawfiq to act upon what has been mentioned.

O Allah give us the tawfiq to do the actions that please You.
