Once the people of Madina were terrified (of a sound thinking an enemy approaching), so Rasullullah ﷺ rode a horse belonging to Abu Talha ra unsaddled (which was very slow) and (on his return) he said, "We have not seen anything (fearful), but we found this horse very fast.” And another narration mentions: “That horse was never excelled in running hence forward.”
This is when a sound was heard and people thought that an enemy was approaching.
The horse was a very lazy horse that would not run very fast. When Rasullullah ﷺ returned he explained there was nothing to worry about and he said that the horse was very fast. After this incident, the horse was never excelled by another. This is the miracle of Rasullullah ﷺ.
The sahaba ra would see these miracles many times a day. This is one of the reasons their Imaan was strong. They would also consistently recite durood.
Upon reciting durood there is a feeling which is found in no other acts of worship. For example salaah, zakaat, sadaqa etc are all praiseworthy acts of worship. But reciting durood is an act like no other. Allah ﷻ mentions in the Quran:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
Surely, Allah and His angels send blessings to the Prophet. O you who believe, do pray Allah to bless him, and send your Salām (prayer for his being in peace) to him in abundance.
[Ahzab 56]
This is the speciality of durood. When we recite durood, Allah ﷻ also sends blessings to the Prophet ﷺ. What other act do we do that Allah ﷻ does too? Allah ﷻ doesn’t say He performs salah with us or gives zakat with us etc. This is the speciality of durood.
Hadhrat Gangohi ؒ would advise to recite 300 durood minimum a day. Hadhrat حفظه الله also advise us to recite 300 daily. If we don’t do this we will regret it later. If we can’t then we should at least recite 100 daily.
Sayyiduna Abdurrahman ibn Awf ra came to Rasullullah ﷺ once to talk regarding a matter. Rasullullah ﷺ was in a date orchard and was in sajdah. Sayyiduna Abdurrahman ra decided to wait but so much time passed whilst Rasullullah ﷺ was in the sajdah position that he was worried that Rasullullah ﷺ had passed away. Rasullullah ﷺ then finished and he had such a smile on his face. Sayyiduna Abdurrahman ra asked Rasullullah ﷺ the reason for the lengthy sajdah. Rasullullah ﷺ said that Jibreel as had informed him that from his ummah, when a person recites one durood, ten sins of his are forgiven and his status is raised ten times. This is the reason Rasullullah ﷺ was happy.
This is the importance of durood. So try to recite durood daily.
A sahabi ra mentioned, ‘I said, ‘O Rasullullah, I supplicate often, so how much of my supplication should I devote to you?’ He replied, ‘as you desire’. I said, ‘a quarter of it?’ He said ‘as you desire, but if you were to increase upon this, it would be better for you.’ I said, ‘half of it?’ He said, ‘as you desire, but if you were to increase upon this, it would be better for you.’ I said, ‘two-thirds of it?’ He said again, ‘as you desire, but if you were to increase upon this, it would be better for you.’ Finally I said, ‘and if I dedicate my supplication in its entirety to you?’ He said, ‘then your needs will be satisfied, and your sins forgiven.’
We can even recite durood whilst we are doing our work.
If one has any worries or hardship he should recite durood.
May Allah ﷻ grant us the ability to practise on everything that has been said. Āmīn
