Rank of a woman

*Summary of Iṣlāḥī Majlis by Shaykhul-Ḥadīth Ḥaḍrat Mawlāna Ādam ibn Yūsuf Ṣāḥib دامت بركاته*

‎مولاي صل وسلم دائمًا أبدًا

‎على حبيبك خير الخلق كلهم

*عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الأَشْجَعِيِّ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ أَنَا وَامْرَأَةٌ سَفْعَاءُ الْخَدَّيْنِ كَهَاتَيْنِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَأَوْمَأَ يَزِيدُ بِالْوُسْطَى وَالسَّبَّابَةِ ‏"‏ امْرَأَةٌ آمَتْ مِنْ زَوْجِهَا ذَاتُ مَنْصِبٍ وَجَمَالٍ حَبَسَتْ نَفْسَهَا عَلَى يَتَامَاهَا حَتَّى بَانُوا أَوْ مَاتُوا* (أبو داود)

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: _”I and a woman with weathered cheeks shall on the Day of Resurrection be like these two (pointing to the middle and forefinger), a woman of rank and beauty who has been bereft of her husband and devotes herself to her fatherless children (orphans) till they go their separate ways or pass away.”_

The woman mentioned in the Ḥadīth can be a widow or someone who has been divorced and has young children. She sacrifices her life and strives to look after them. She even refrains from marriage despite her beauty and youth, only for the sake of her children.

The words سَفْعَاءُ الْخَدَّيْنِ meaning that her cheeks have darkened and become weathered due to the worry she has for her children and the effort of looking after them. Such a woman is promised a very high status if she endures this test patiently.

On the day of Qiyāmah, when the whole of mankind will be running around from one messenger to another, these women will be stitting calmly with the Messenger ﷺ.

If such a woman protects her chastity and doesn't fall into the temptations of the world then her status will be raised even higher than that of the Awliyā (friends of Allahﷻ).

This is as long as she fulfils her obligations and leaves out what is Ḥarām. It can also be that such a woman will be saved from the difficult questioning of the grave, which is a particular gift granted to the martyrs.

Children, even after their marriage, should look after their mother who sacrificed so much for them.

The scholars have deduced a ruling from this Hadīth that creating ease and comfort for any person is a means of great reward, and increases one in status.

Sheikh Sa'dī رحمه الله says in a poem: "All of the children of Adam are like the limbs, such that if one body part is hurting then the whole body feels the pain." So if we see our brothers and sisters in any difficulty, we we should feel the pain and try our utmost best to give them ease and comfort. We should try as much as possible not to cause difficulty to anyone, whether they are musim or non muslim. Just this act of not inconveniencing others is a means of reward.

*إِنَّ اللَّهَ اشْتَرَىٰ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُم بِأَنَّ لَهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ*

_"Allah ﷻ has indeed purchased from the believers their lives and wealth in exchange for Paradise."_ ( At-Tawbah, Āyah 111)
