_It has been narrated from Abdullah Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ , I have committed a tremendous sin. Is there any (hope of) repentance for me?" He said: "Do you have your mother?" The man said: "No." He said: "Do you have any maternal aunts?" The man said: "Yes." He said: "Then be dutiful to her."_

From this ḥadīth we learn that Rasūlullah ﷺ did not ask what sin was committed, rather he gave a solution. Likewise if someone comes to us for a solution we must not probe into the sin. Comittimg a sin is a sin and making it apparent is another sin.
The noble companion was asking for the way forward in order to attract the mercy of Allah ﷻ. Our beloved

Rasūlullah ﷺ enquired if he had a mother who was alive. The Companion said that he did not, (meaning she had passed away.) Our beloved Rasūlullah ﷺ then enquired if his maternal aunt was alive. When the Companion responded in the affirmative, our beloved Rasūlullah ﷺ instructed him to provide her with good treatment.
The scholars of ḥadīth generally mention that to have good dealings with one's family is important, and in particular, the maternal aunt holds a great lofty status. This is not only after the death of the mother but also in the presence of one’s mother.
After one’s mother’s death, maternal aunts holds the same status like that of a mother.

Ḥaḍrat Abdullah bin Zubayr رضي الله عنه was the nephew of Ḥaḍrat 'Ā'ishah رضى الله عنها. On one occasion, they both had a minor disagreement upon which Ḥaḍrat 'Ā'ishah رضي الله عنها swore that she would never speak with her nephew. The reason for doing this was to reform her nephew.
Ḥaḍrat Abdullah رضي الله عنه was very distressed at this and wanted to resolve the matter. Many Companions tried to intercede on his behalf, but Ḥaḍrat 'Āishah رضي الله عنها didn’t accept any of their intercession. Ḥaḍrat Abdullah رضي الله عنه went to two elderly people in the family of our beloved Rasūlullah ﷺ and devised a plan. The two individuals covered themselves in a shawl and Ḥaḍrat Abdullah bin Zubayr رضي الله عنه concealed himself between them. Then, they went to the house of Ḥaḍrat 'Ā'ishah رضي الله عنها seeking permission to enter. Permission was granted. One of them asked, “Permission for all of us?” and Ḥaḍrat 'Ā'ishah رضي الله عنها replied in the affirmative (unbeknown that Ḥaḍrat Abdullah رضي الله عنه was also with them). In this manner, Ḥaḍrat Abdullah رضي الله عنه also entered. At soon as they entered, Ḥaḍrat Abdullah رضي الله عنه then promptly went on to the other side of the veil (where Ḥaḍrat 'Āishah رضي الله عنها was residing) and embraced his aunt Ḥaḍrat 'Āishah رضي الله عنها and asked for sincere forgiveness, weeping profusely. The two companions who were behind the veil interceded on his behalf also. Ḥaḍrat 'Āishah رضي الله عنها said, “I have sworn an oath that I will not speak to him”. They responded that there is a compensation which can be done for this. This story is mentioned in detail in Bukhāri Sharīf.
𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀:
▪︎This story demonstrates the importance of the veil. The sad reality is that we tend to undermine the importance of the veil. Our condition is such that our hearts have hardened despite death being at our doorstep. May Allah ﷻ grant us true guidance. Āmīn.
▪︎If somebody were to verbally abuse our maternal aunt, this would be tantamount to verbally abusing one's mother. In today’s time, we undermine the status of the aunt. People also swear at their own mother, never mind their aunt. We must be mindful of this. We learn that even major sins can be forgiven through serving our mothers and through serving our maternal aunts.
▪︎Ḥaḍrat Ḥalīmah Sa'diyyah رضي الله عنها was the foster mother of our beloved Rasūlullah ﷺ. One day, our beloved Rasūlullah ﷺ was cutting meat when he was informed of her arrival in the city. Rasūlullah ﷺ quickly spread a sheet out in order to honour her so she could sit upon it.
*A few du'ās that were mentioned by our respected Ḥaḍrat:*
May Allah ﷻ grant us the ability to sincerely repent and may Allah ﷻ grant us all a good ending. Āmīn
```May Allah ﷻ grant us the ability to practise on everything that has been said. Āmīn```
