عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّ أُمَّ مَالِكٍ، كَانَتْ تُهْدِي لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي عُكَّةٍ لَهَا سَمْنًا فَيَأْتِيهَا بَنُوهَا فَيَسْأَلُونَ الأُدْمَوَلَيْسَ عِنْدَهُمْ شَىْءٌ فَتَعْمِدُ إِلَى الَّذِي كَانَتْ تُهْدِي فِيهِ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَتَجِدُ فِيهِ سَمْنًا فَمَا زَالَ يُقِيمُ لَهَاأُدْمَ بَيْتِهَا حَتَّى عَصَرَتْهُ فَأَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ " عَصَرْتِيهَا " . قَالَتْ نَعَمْ . قَالَ " لَوْ تَرَكْتِيهَا مَا زَالَقَائِمًا " .
Jabir رضي الله عنه reported that Umm Malik رضي الله عنها used to send clarified butter in a small skin (like a tub) to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). Her sons would come to her and ask for seasoning when they had nothing with them (in the form of condiments) and she would go to that (skin) in which she offered (clarified butter) to Rasullullah(ﷺ), and she would find in that clarified butter (due to barakah) and it kept providing her with seasoning for her household until one day she had (completely) squeezed it. She came to Rasullullah(ﷺ) and (informed him about it). Thereupon, he said:
Did you squeeze it? She said: Yes. Thereupon he ﷺ said: If you had left it in that very state, it would have kept on providing you (the clarified butter) on end.
This barakah is a miracle of Rasullullah ﷺ. Whenever she would have no food for her children she would find a bit of butter in the tub she would use for sending butter to Rasullullah ﷺ. But one day she removed and squeezed every last bit out of it. Then it stopped providing her with the butter whenever she needed it. This is due to the barakah of Rasullullah ﷺ.
When something has barakah in it, even if there is a little it will increase enough for many of people.
The miracles of Rasullullah ﷺ have not completely disapperared in this world. They are still apparent in the form of karamaat(miracles) of the pious. These karamaat of the pious are from the barakah of Rasullullah ﷺ and are by the will of Allah ﷻ .
Whenever Allah ﷻ wills then a person will perform a miracle. We can see this in the life of Rasullullah ﷺ too. Sometimes ease was created through a miracle and sometimes Rasullullah ﷺ went through hardship.
For example when Rasullullah ﷺ travelled for hijrah, the disbelievers were so close by, they only had to bend down and they would see Rasullullah ﷺ and Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه and catch them.
Then there was also the miracle of the extremely weak goat, that gave milk for Rasullullah ﷺ. The owners of the goat were astonished. The goat, that was too weak to give milk, gave so much it was enough for Rasullullah ﷺ and the owner’s family.
These were all miracles of Rasullullah ﷺ.
If Allah ﷻ wished he could have made Rasullullah ﷺ travel to Madina Munawwarah miraculously. But no, Rasullullah ﷺ went through hardship and traveled the journey.
This is an example that shows that whenever Allah ﷻ wishes a person will perform a miracle. It isn’t from the person themselves.
In everything belonging to Rasullullah ﷺ there is barakah. Today, in all the remaining things belonging to Rasullullah ﷺ there is barakah.
For example, the blessed hair of Rasullullah ﷺ.
In the same way, the a ctions that Rasullullah ﷺ did, (sunan) have barakah.
For example reciting the dua before eating.
There are many sunan that we can follow and many books listing and explaining them.
We know and have learnt many of them. We have fallen into the trap of not following these actions that are full of barakah.
For example if we use the miswak before salah, which is a sunnah act, it will cause us to have more concentration in our salah.
We should aim to act upon every sunnah and not leave any out.
If someone tries to remember to act upon the sunan with due care and consideration, they will not forget to do it and Allah ﷻ will make him remember.
The author of Qasida burda mentions:
من تكن برسول الله نصرته
ان تلقه الأسد في أجامها تجم
“One who has the help of Rasullullah ﷺ with him,
Even if a lion meets him in it’s den it begins to fear. “
This has occurred in the past too. A pious man was once captured by an angry oppressive ruler. He ordered that the pious man be put into the lion’s cage. The servants followed the orders. People came to watch thinking that he would be killed within minutes. This pious man’s name was Jamal R.A. When he was put into the cage, the lion roared loudly and walked towards the man. He then sat down and shook his tail indicating he would not harm the man. Everyone was shocked including the ruler who had ordered for him to be put in. He was taken out with reverence after this karamah (miracle) was witnessed. People asked him: what were you thinking when you were put into the cage? He replied saying, I was thinking that if the lion licks me will his spit be pure or impure because it is salah time soon.
Subhanallah. We are not at this status but we can at least try.
The author of Qasida burda says:
ولن ترى من وليّ غير منتصر
به ولا من عدوّ غير منقصم
“And you would not see a friend not assisted,
By him ﷺ, nor would you find any foe that is not overwhelmed.”
If we follow Rasullullah ﷺ we will be successful in this world and the hereafter.
أحلّ أمّته في حرز ملّته
كاللّيث حلّ مع الأشبال في أجم
“The fort of faith is where he set his people, like a lion which places its cubs in the safest place”
Just like a lion that protects its cubs- if any animal comes near them the lion will pounce.
The same way the sunan of Rasullullah ﷺ are like a fort for the believers which protects muslims from all harms.
May Allah ﷻ give us tawfiq
Some duas Hadhrat made:
O Allah, O Most Merciful, You have so much love for Rasullullah ﷺ. With this love for Rasullullah ﷺ, have mercy on the ummah of Rasullullah ﷺ!
Create ease for us to follow the path of Rasullullah ﷺ.
