Summary of talk on the night of 15th sha’baan
Hadhrat Maulana Adam Sahib Hafizahullah
Tonight is the night of forgiveness.
In the past many sinful people have become wali of Allah during this night.
This is the greatness of this night.
Let’s look at ourselves and see what our sins are and how we can please Allah ﷻ.
There are good and bad sins.
Allah ﷻ says in many places in the Quran that by doing good deeds we can become the friend of Allah ﷻ And that whoever leaves sins, Allah ﷻ loves him.
Good deeds have a scent of perfume to them. Whoever does a good deed, gets a scent of good deeds.
We should put perfume on in the real form too. This is sunnah.
By doing good deeds we get an inner scent that doesn’t leave. This is from Rasullullah ﷺ.
The fragrance from Rasullullah ﷺ has been narrated many times.
In the ahadith it is reported that hadhrat umm sulaim ra would collect the sweat of Rasullullah ﷺ. She would mix it with other perfume and it would create a unique fragrance.
A sahabis daughter was going to get married. They couldn’t afford to buy perfume. Rasullullah ﷺ gave a few drops of his sweat as perfume. This fragrance had so much effect that his house was known as the perfumed house.
Wherever Rasullullah ﷺ would pass, a scent of his ﷺ unique fragrance would linger.
It is clear that all the deeds Rasullullah ﷺ would do were good deeds.
Then the sahaba also followed this for example
Hadhrat Abu bakr ra had a fragrance from his body that was better than musk.
There was a pious person who would sit in masjid nabawi ﷺ who was a great qari. He would recite quran and people around him realised that he had a unique fragrance coming from his mouth. People thought that maybe he is chewing something and ask regarding this. He replied saying i dont keep anything in my mouth. Since you ask, the truth is in a dream i saw Rasullullah ﷺ and he said ‘ you recite Quran with so much sincerity, love and taqwa, i wish to kiss your mouth’
Since this time this intense fragrance has been there.
Hadhrat Zakariyya ra has written an occurrence that a man would recite durood before sleeping daily. He saw Rasullullah ﷺ in a dream and Rasullullah ﷺ kissed his cheek. When he awoke, his whole house smelt of such a unique fragrance that didn’t go away.
Whoever’s actions are like Rasullullah’s ﷺ, he will get some of this greatness too.
Tonight, we should perform 2 rakat nafl. We should ask for forgiveness and intend to never do the sin again.
Don’t think ‘how will i leave the sin’. Allah ﷻ will make you leave it. He will put fear in our hearts. Make dua to have fear of Allah ﷻ.
That person who admits to his sins is accepted by Allah ﷻ. Whoever doesn’t admit to his sin, has pride.
Everyone knows their sins.
Shaytan will come to us and say how are you going to perform 2 rakat when you do such a such sin. But think of the mercy of Allah ﷻ. His mercy is so great. No matter how great your sin is, his mercy is greater. His door is always open but tonight is the night of forgiveness.
tonight ask for forgiveness and decide that you have let the sin. Not that you will leave the sin but that you have left the sin now.
Why are we not leaving our sins? Because it has become a habit for us.
If we dont repent tonight on the night of forgiveness then we wont tomorrow either!
Be strong tonight and ask for forgiveness. Take the step tonight!
Leave all sins. The ones we can see and the ones in our hearts.
Shaikh Saadi says:
تکبر مکن زینهار ای پسر که روزی زدستش درایی به سر
Brother dont be proud. The thing that you are proud on, that is what you will fall with. -
If you are proud of your beauty, your beauty will be your downfall.
If you are proud of your ilm, it will be your downfall.
Before this time, lets ask for forgiveness.
May Allah ﷻ give us tawfiq.
Tonight ask for forgiveness and leave our sins. Yes it is a tough thing to do.
صدبار اگر توبه شكستى بازآى
Even if you have asked forgiveness 100 times and failed to leave the sin, come and leave the sin and repent.
We have sinned so much that if our sins had a smell then the world would run away from us.
Allah ﷻ is giving us signs, we need to take heed and repent.
If we dont die tomorrow we will die one day.
O Allah, during this night, only from your mercy, make us able to truthfully repent and make us yours. O Allah if we stay in the state that we are in then what will happen to us in the grave.
If we sin we will definitely get punishment. In the hereafter or the world. In the world the punishment is that when we ask for forgiveness, then we will have so much remorse. Sometimes food doesn’t taste right, we are so worried. Then in the hereafter there will be no question about the sin and we will be forgiven after our remorse.
Rabia basria ra would say, o Allah it is dark, the night has come, the stars are out, all the kings have closed the doors but You are the king of kings, Your door is open. Please forgive me.
Take the step tonight to ask for forgiveness. It may be hard but try hard and repent. List your sins. Cry to Allah ﷻ.
قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّه إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
We should ask for forgiveness every night before we sleep. You ask which sins? We all know our sins. We have thousands of sins but we only look at our good deeds. The pious would never look at their good deeds. They would worry and repent on their sins.
Whatever sins you have done, you need to have remorse on them. This may be like a sour medicine! We should repent every night.
Make a firm intention to stop the sin and then if you do it by mistake then ask for forgiveness again and make a firm intention to stop the sin again.
Allama hafiz ibn qayyim has written that i was walking by and saw a young boy being scolded by his mother and sent out of the house. The mother closed the door and the boy was left outside the door. He cried a lot and was tired. He was lying down on the floor and he fell asleep. And then the mother opened the door and scolded him again. The boy said o mother, i was about to leave but then I returned because I realised i would never find the love of my mother elsewhere. The mother straight away took the boy in her arms and forgave him despite her being angry before.
This is a mother’s love. Allah ﷻ has much more love and mercy for us than our parents. If we have remorse then Allah ﷻ will forgive us.
If we have remorse and humility then Allah ﷻ will forgive us
Realise that noone will live forever. Even though Rasullullah ﷺ is the most beloved to Allah ﷻ he passed away too. Even the angel of death will die! Only Allah ﷻ is everlasting.
Recite 2 rakat nafl salah whilst crying in remorse. Recite surah kafiroon in one rakah and surah ikhlas in the other. Be humble in front of Allah ﷻ. Ask for forgiveness.
O Allah we are a sinful ummah but we are the ummah of Rasullullah ﷺ. Give us tawfiq to repent.
